New Maruti Swift Scores 4-Star Safety Ratings in Japan NCAP Test

The all-new Maruti Swift has aced safety tests, achieving a 4-star rating at the Japan NCAP (J NCAP) facility. This is a surprising result, considering the Swift’s use of the Heartect platform, which previously raised safety concerns.

ADAS Boosts Safety

The new Swift’s strong performance is likely due to the inclusion of an Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS). The car’s structure also impressed, with the cabin holding firm during frontal and side pole collisions.

India-Spec Swift Might Lose Features

While the Indian version of the Swift won’t have the ADAS system, it’s expected to maintain a good safety rating. Standard features like six airbags should contribute to this. It will likely be tested by Bharat NCAP, known for having less stringent testing procedures compared to J NCAP.

Launch and Features

The new Swift is set for a May 2024 launch in India. Look for a new dashboard design similar to the Baleno and Fronx, along with a 9-inch touchscreen system, ARKAMYS surround sound, and connected car technology. However, the Indian model will miss out on the global version’s electronic parking brake.

Maruti SUVs Up Next for Testing

Maruti’s Brezza and Grand Vitara SUVs, built on the proven Global C platform, are also expected to undergo Bharat NCAP testing soon. With additional safety features, these SUVs have a high chance of achieving a perfect 5-star rating.
